Cowboys spend a lifetime ridin' and ropin' and tendin' cows. When the calves come there's a lot of work to be done. Sometimes they just need help for the day; but cowboyin' is a lost art. At Blue Sky Ranch we want to give you the experience for a day so when duty calls we'll have more cowboys to call on. Doesn't matter if you want to be a cowboy or a cowgirl for the day, a week, or the rest of your life; we will spend the day with you and teach you the basics of grooming and tracking the horse properly for a full work day. We'll work on basic ground work to make sure the horse has the proper respect for you as a rider and you have the proper command of the horse before you even get up on him for the first ride. You want the proper connection if you're gonna throw a rope off him. Don't know if we'll get that far but it always helps to be prepared the cowboy way. We'll feed ya a cowboy breakfast and a boxed lunch so we can spend some time throwin' a rope on the ground.
Once we get goin', we'll be working the basics of calming a small herd, cutting, and sorting. Nothing fancy; just the basics of connecting horse, rider and cow. We'll be taking it slow and easy so the cows aren't riled and nobody feels rushed. It's the cowboy way to take your time and do it right the first time. Those cows have a mind of their own...
Once we cover the basics we'll move a small herd out to pasture and keep them moving through the field and streams up to Antelope Valley. It's about a two hour ride up and back. We'll stop at the Tavern on the way back just to wet the whistle if you know what I mean. Hopefully we'll see a moose or elk or eagle while we're ridin'. A cowboy always is lookin' out for the wild animals. It calms the soul...
So come join us for the day and be that cowboy or cowgirl you always wanted to be but couldn't fit into your busy schedule. We're serious about the work during the day, so you must be 18 or older to participate. We'll supply the horses, saddles, bridles, halters, food and drink. Bring your cowboy hat and good strong riding or cowboy boots, jeans, windbreaker, and long sleeve shirt. We'll supply the sunblock and water.
